That man has guns!
October 11, 2007 – 3:40 pmI don’t know what it is, but I feel very uhm… I guess conspicuous is the word… yes, conspicuous when moving my firearms out of my house. I previously lived with my brother on a dead end road. There were two neighbors who could see me and I did not care. Three months ago, I temporarily moved into a house owned by my father. I left my rifles at my brother’s house but I brought my 3 handguns with me. Each time that I leave the house carrying my range bag and a cased firearm (or two), I feel like everyone is staring at me. Part of that is due the family across the street who likes to scream at each other all day and seem to have bands of roving teenagers in their yard at all hours of the night. I find myself wondering if they might see the guns as a reason to break into the house while I’m gone.
But now I’m moving to an apartment. Carrying in a range bag is easy, carrying in cased handguns is easy enough as well. But how do you carry in rifles without drawing attention to yourself? I know, I know, gun ownership is legal, I shouldn’t need to hide my guns at all. Part of me feels like people are going to see that and label me perhaps? Nevermind that my entire rifle collection consists of milsurps and not a single “evil” black rifle (yet), I’ll still feel like I’m being judged.
Or perhaps I proudly tramp them into the apartment, head held high, with my buddies in line behind me, each carrying 50 caliber ammo cans or the heavy tins of 50’s military ammo. If anyone looks at me funny, I’ll give them the evil eye.
I like option 2.
